Lancashire League 2018 Update
With round 1 of the Lancashire League seeing the current Champions, Fleetwood Flyers book their place in the finals in September round 2 would see another team from the North West, Blackburn Rovers WFC book their place in the finals by finishing in 2nd place to the Flyers who topped the league again
June brought us round 3 of the series and this time it was AFC Flylde Coasters who put in a strong performance and qualified by finishing 2nd to Blackburn Rovers who topped the League with the Flyers ending the day in 3rd despite only conceding 1 goal all day !
Round 4 of the League series was played in July sunshine and again the Flyers finished top of the pile with Blackburn Rovers 2nd and AFC Blackpool SS finishing 3rd to book their place in the finals
With only one round of qualifying remaining to be played in August it will be interesting to see if any of the other regular teams can finish in the top 3 of the league to book a place in the September finals but against strong opposition it won't be easy.
Flyers Crowned FA Peoples Cup CHAMPIONS 2018
On 28 April our over 50's squad made the journey to the FA headquarters, St Georges Park in Burton-upon-Trent for the finals of the prestigious FA Peoples Cup where they would face the other 5 remaining teams from over 200 that started out in the competition in February.
With the 1st round being a round robin tournament with the top 4 teams securing a place in the semi-finals it soon became apparent that the standard of football would be very high and the referees very strict but the Flyers got of to a good start with a 1-0 win over Wiltshire WFC
With the remaining matches proving very tight the Flyers eventually secured their place in the semi-finals with a game to spare.
In the semi-final the Flyers faced a stiff challenge against Midlands team, Peles Pearls with the game ending 0-0 it went to penalties for a place in the finals with the Flyers securing a 2-0 victory
And so it came down to the final against the winners of the other semi-final, Beccles Town FC. The match was very tight and balanced with few clear chances for either side to break the deadlock. On the final whistle the score remained 0-0 and so the Champions would be decided with a penalty shootout !
Beccles won the toss and elected to kick first, top quality penalties followed from both sides and a tense shootout resulted in the the Flyers eventually winning 5-4 to be crowned National Champions in the biggest and most prestigious walking football competition in the UK. The FA Peoples Cup
Flyers Take First Step In Retaining 2017 Title
On 22 April six teams from across the North West gathered at Poolfoot Farm for the 1st round of the highly anticipated 2018 Lancashire League Series with the Flyers looking to defend their 2017 crown and also fielding a 2nd team for the first time.
With the 1st round being a straight league tournament with the top team securing a place in Septembers Final it soon became apparent that this would be a 3 way battle between the Flyers, 2016 Champions Blackpool SSWFC and Blackburn Rovers WF and so it proved.
Going into the last match of the day Blackpool led the way from Blackburn on goal difference having played all their matches and the Flyers needed a 7 clear goal victory to take top spot by goal difference !
With no prizes for 2nd the Flyers went for it and incredibly won the last match 7-0 to secure top spot and qualification for the final.
Flyers Book Place In The FA Peoples Cup Finals
On 24th March our over 50's team headed over to central Manchester to take part in the semi-finals of the FA Peoples Cup
With the tournament now reaching the semi-final stage the Flyers would be up against the winners from the other Northern qualifying rounds so progression to the Finals would not be easy against quality opposition.
Despite losing their first game 1-2 the Flyers soon got into their stride and reached the semi-finals where they record a 3-1 victory
In the Final we met familiar opponents in Blackburn Rovers WFC and after a close match eventually ran out 1-0 victors. The team will now head to FA Headquarters, St Georges Park for the finals on April 28th

Mixed Fortunes For Flyers In FA Peoples Cup
We entered 2 squads in the FA Peoples Cup played in Blackpool on 25th Feb.
With 12 teams entered on the day and split into 3 groups our 1st team squad (right) did well to qualify for the semi-finals with 2 very convincing victories and a single loss to eventual finalists Blackburn Rovers WFC.
In the semi we lost out to the eventual winners and old friends Blackpool Senior Seasiders.
Our second team had not previously played competitive football together and with some players playing in fairly unfamiliar positions it proved telling as despite their valiant efforts and determination they fell to three narrow defeats in the group stage but all enjoyed the days football.

Played in the cages at Goals North Liverpool this was a 5 a-side tournament featuring 10 teams and 20 minute straight through matches.
The first game saw us play Robert Zimmermen WFC which was a close affair resulting in a 2-2 draw with Zimmermen claiming a late equaliser.
The second game saw the Flyers pitched against a strong Livewire Warrington WFC team who took an early lead but the Flyers soon equalised through captain Karl Jones who went on to score a further 3 giving the Flyers a 4-1 advantage but a late push from Warrington saw them pull 2 back to make the final score 4-3 to the Flyers, securing a well deserved win and 4 points on the day to get the league off to a sound start.
Round 2 is on Sunday 5th March when we go again.
Over 60's Make Steady Start In Rochdale
On Feb 3rd our Over 60's squad made the trip to Rochdale to contest the 1st round of the Greater Manchester League
Injuries to a number of players in the week leading up to the event and others just not available meant that the Flyers would face a tough challenge from some high quality teams on the day but they came through the test with much credit, playing out 2 draws and suffering a narrow 0-1 defeat to Chadderton WFC
Well done to all the players who will be looking to build on a solid start in the next round on 3rd March.

Over 50's Flyers Suffer Defeat In Thrilling Final
On 11th Dec a strong but small Fleetwood Flyers over 50's squad made the trip to Goals North in Liverpool to take part in a 5 A-Side tournament organised by Liverpool FA
The Flyers got of to a good start beating Southport 8-0 and then went on to win their remaining qualifying games to qualify for the semi-final as group winners.
The semi-final saw us come up against Crosby which proved to be a tight match with the game ending 2-2. A penalty shoot-out would decide the game and the standard of spot kicks was very high with Fleetwood Flyers eventually winning with an impressive, perfect spot kick record.
In the final The Flyers would face an Everton FCCT team, Kendal Corinthians. As all the matches on the day had been 20 minutes, one way, the small Flyers squad was starting to feel the effects of fatigue but soon took the lead in the final. As the game went on tiredness would eventually take its toll as the close, competitive game eventually saw the Flyers fall to a narrow 4-3 defeat.
Everybody enjoyed a well organised event with a good standard of refereeing but we were ultimately disappointed not to come away with the main prize.
Honours Shared In AFC Fylde Friendly
On 4th Dec Fleetwood Flyers welcomed AFC Fylde WFC to a sunny Poolfoot Farm for a friendly fixture of two 30 minute matches of 15 minutes each way.
The first game saw AFC Fylde take a very early lead which set the tone for the rest of the match which would see AFC Fylde profit from some mistakes from the home side and secure a deserved 4-2 victory
The second match saw AFC Fylde facing a completely different Flyers team due to our squad size on the day. As half time arrived the score was still 0-0 with the game evenly balanced. The second half saw Fleetwood Flyers take the lead through an excellent strike by George Greenall but it wasn't long before AFC Fylde equalized.
With both teams hitting the woodwork it looked like we were heading for a draw when in the final minutes a great move from the Flyers resulted in a goal to secure a 2-1 victory for Fleetwood
Everybody enjoyed the 2 matches which were played in a great spirit and thanks to Gerald Brown for an excellent performance as referee for the day
Over 60's Flyers Reach Semi-Finals In Wigan
On 17th Nov Fleetwood Flyers returned to the Wigan Soccerdome to take part in Wigan Walkers WFC over 60's 8 team tournament. As had been the case 2 weeks earlier this was a bare bones squad helped by Ken from Blackpool Senior Seasiders on loan for the day. Once the team settled they played some quality football to finish 2nd in the qualifying group and secure a deserved place in the semi-finals.
In the semi-final we again, faced a very strong Wigan team who despite our efforts eventually secured a 2-0 victory to book a place in the final.
Everybody enjoyed a well organised, competitive tournament and can be very proud of what was, an excellent performance to finish a very credible, joint 3rd. Flyers over 60's squad pictured with the Mayor and Mayoress of Wigan
Depleted Flyers Battle to Semi-Finals
On 3rd Nov a makeshift Fleetwood Flyers over 50's squad headed to the Wigan Soccerdome to take part in Wigan Walkers WFC 8 team tournament. With Pete Thomas and especially Dave Hirst carrying quite surious injuries and no subs available it was always going to be a tough day. Full marks though to those who did travel as they came out of the blocks quickly and played some great football to win our qualifying group and book a deserved place in the semi-finals, in the circumstances an excellent result in itself.
In the semi-final we faced a very strong Wigan team who took advantage of our now tiring squad to seal victory and book a place in the final against Man City which they would go on to win 3-0.
We all enjoyed a good and very competitive tournament and special thanks to Dave H, Pete T who both 'took one' for the team plus Eric, Karl, Kev and Rob
